By Allan Fox: Canelo Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso responded to Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe saying today that Caleb ‘Sweethands’ Plant will be ready to defeat Canelo Alvarez after working with new trainer Breadman Edwards for another fight.

Regarding Ellerbe’s comments, Reynoso said, “Nice shot,” explaining that he did not take what he said seriously.

Plant wants to meet Canelo again, something hot, but he is not at all interested in working with him in a fight with David Benavidez or Jermall Charlo.

The 31-year-old Plant just wants another fight, and you can’t blame him because the payday for a fight with Canelo will be huge.

Plant tasted good money against Canelo last November in a losing effort, and now wants a second fight.

If the Plant would just work to rebalance, it wouldn’t be a problem. However, as you have seen with him choosing to fight the old relic Dirrell, who has spent many years in his first position, it seems clear that he is taking a simple backyard strategy to try the second fight with Canelo by fighting with shooters.

Ellerbe believes that Breadman improved Plant after watching him knock out 37-year-old Anthony Dirrell in the ninth round last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

‘Sweethands’ KO’ went past his best Dirrell with a left hook to the head, causing many boxing fans to suddenly wonder about the Tennessean native’s power.

However, Plant looked the same kind of light as ever in the first eight rounds, and it was only because he caught Dirrell with a shot that he didn’t see that he could KO him in nine.

In the ninth, Dirrell got reckless and started throwing combos that Plant was pulling back at full speed and changing directions frequently to avoid the heat.

Dirrell eventually paid the price by falling unconscious when Plant nailed him with a perfect left hook that knocked him unconscious.

Plant (22-0, 13 KOs) had a ton of problems with Canelo’s power last November when they fought for the light welterweight championship.

Canelo pressured Shuka throughout the fight, forcing him to back away from his shots. In the ninth round, Plant was exhausted. From then on, Canelo played a tired Plant until he stopped him in the 11th.
