Ticketmaster has canceled the general sale of tickets for the US leg of Taylor Swift’s tour, citing “insufficient ticket inventory” to meet “extraordinarily high demand”.

General ticket sales for Swift’s Eras tour were planned to open Friday morning after a verified fan presale opened Tuesday, before the company canceled the public sale entirely.

On Thursday, Ticketmaster tweeted: “Due to exceptionally high demand on the ticketing system and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow’s public sale for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour has been cancelled.”

The ticket agency earlier took to Twitter to ask fans to be patient as “millions” of Presley tried to buy tickets, resulting in “historically unprecedented demand”.

It comes after the singer triumphed at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) over the weekend, picking up four of the top gongs, including two for All to Well.

Across her six nominations, she won Home Best Video and Best Longform Video for Best Artist and Best Pop Song at the ceremony in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The 32-year-old made sure she thanked her fans – known as Swifties – for each award, at one point saying: “You’re the reason anything happened to me.”

The American leg of his tour kicks off on March 18 in Glendale, Arizona, with the singer joining a number of popular artists during the tour, including the bands Paramore and Haim, as well as soloists Phoebe Bridgers and Gracie Abrams.

Swift’s latest album Midnights claimed the biggest first week of album sales since Adele’s release of 30 last November and took the title of most streamed album of the year in its first week with 72.5 million streams over seven days.
