The Horizon New Artist of the Year Award – 1984

The Horizon Award, or New Artist of the Year Award as it is now known, is one of the CMA’s primary awards. It is to honor artists whose work has achieved fame on a national level and will likely continue to achieve greatness as they move forward with their careers.

The Judds took home the award in 1984 when they took the country music scene by storm. It was their first of nine CMA Awards.

Single of the Year – 1985

In 1985, the duo won Single of the Year for their single, “Why Not Me”. It is a song from their debut full-length studio album of the same name. The album sold millions of copies in the US and established The Judes as a dominant force on the country music scene.

Vocal Group of the Year – 1985 to 1987

The Vocal Group of the Year Award was first presented in 1967 and included a duo. However, they created a separate category for duets in 1970.

The Judds won a total of three CMA Awards in this category, and they won consecutively from 1985 to 1987. Aside from the Dixie Chicks, the Judds are the only all-female group to win the award.

Vocal Duo of the Year – 1988 to 1991

In 1970 the Vocal Duo of the Year category was introduced. Judes took home four trophies from this category and once again, they won back-to-back awards.

The Judds have certainly made an impressive mark on the country music scene, and these CMA Awards are proof of that. Although we will never see the two perform on stage again, they have left us an impressive legacy that we will cherish forever.
