The Boston Music Awards The 2022 ballot is out, and it’s a doozy. But first, some details: This year’s BMS party goes down on Dec. 14 at Big Night Live, jumping to the larger North Station venue at Allston’s more intimate Brighton Music Hall after a few years. There, the winners will be announced along with a host of guest performers, which we assume will be revealed in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing who’s nominated on this year’s ballot — the BMA’s biggest ever, we think, with a total of 10 nominees in 41 categories, including Reggae/Ska Artist of the Year and Spoken Word Artist of the Year.
In the top-shelf category, BIA, Boy Herscher (pictured), Milliez, Token, and Van Buuren received multiple nominations, and that Alt/Indie Artist of the Year category is stacked from top to bottom. Hell, every category feels appropriately packed-out this year.
On the home front, we respect it Vanyaland received a 10th-straight nomination for Music Publication of the Year, and our own Editor-in-Chief Michael O’Connor Marotta and Music Editor, Boston’s Victoria Wasillak were both nominated for Music Writer of the Year for the fifth consecutive time since the section’s inception (past contributor Candace McDuffie and Rob Duguay also scored bows).
Always important to note: Since 2015, the BMA is owned and operated by our parent company Redefined, but nominees are assembled through an independent nominating committee of several hundred members within the Boston music community (writers, bookers, tastemakers, etc.). And the winner is determined by public vote. So don’t @ us.
