Recently, Transport Canada has repeatedly recalled a number of cars, including cars manufactured by Ford, Kia, Nissan, Volkswagen, etc. for various reasons, including safety risks.
The government’s Department for Transport is issuing guidance to those affected by the recall and says that in most cases owners will be notified by the manufacturer and given any necessary follow-up and instructions.
Here are some of the vehicles recalled by Transport Canada:
BMW
Recalled models: 2020 BMW 5 Series, 2020, 2021 BMW X3, 2020, 2021 BMW X4,
Details: According to Transport Canada, on some vehicles, “a small portion of the rear-view camera image may be blocked,” which can reduce the driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle when reversing.
What to do: TC says BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer for inspection.

Tesla
Recalled models: Tesla Model 3 (2018-2022) Tesla Model Y (2020-2022), 2021, 2022 Tesla Model S
Details: Some Tesla models have been recalled due to a problem with power windows that “do not respond properly when an obstacle is detected.”
As a result, this would mean they would not pass certain tests under Canadian safety regulations and could pose a safety risk.
What to do: TC says Tesla will email owners about the issue and provide an update to address it.

Volkswagen
Recalled models: 2022 Volkswagen GTI, 2022 Volkswagen Golf R
Details: According to the recall, the radiator may not be installed in some Volkswagen models and could pose a safety hazard if coolant leaks, which could cause the engine to overheat and create a fire risk.
What to do: Volkswagen will notify owners of the problem by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealership to have the radiator inspected to make sure it is properly attached.

Nissan
Recalled models: 2022 Nissan Kicks
Details: TC reports that on some vehicles, a problem with the torque sensor in the electric power steering system can cause a “loss of power steering.”
This could pose a safety hazard, as the loss of power steering could “cause a sudden increase in steering effort and create a risk of an accident.”
What to do: Nissan will notify owners of the problem by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealership for inspection.

Mercedes-Benz
Recalled models: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (2019-2022)
Details: According to Transport Canada, under certain conditions, a vehicle may roll after being placed in “park” if the parking brake is not applied, creating a risk of injury or accident.
What to do: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners of the problem by mail. A repair for this recall is currently under development, but once it becomes available, the company will send a second message to owners advising them to take their vehicle to a dealer.
