October 24. A man has been charged with killing a Mason teenager in a crash last summer in West Chester. was arraigned Monday morning in Butler County Common Pleas Court.

Last week, a grand jury indicted 24-year-old Michael Ondreca in the June 14 crash that killed 18-year-old Gian Vespe. Ondreka is charged with aggravated murder, driving under the influence and driving under an OVI suspension.

The fatal crash happened around 11pm that night at Tylersville and Butler Warren roads.

Judge Greg Stevens set Ondreka’s bail at $75,000 cash or surety.

A West Chester Police Department crash report said a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup was southbound on Butler Warren and ran a red light, striking the side of a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Waspe.

Waspe was extricated from the vehicle and taken to West Chester Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Ondreka received minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

911 operators reported seeing a car run a red light at a high rate of speed and crash into another, with two different callers reporting they thought someone had died in the crash, one telling dispatchers, “I think he’s dead,” and another repeated “He’s dead, he’s dead,” before the dispatcher spoke.
