By Vince Writer: 2022 has been a good year for Dominican boxers, and recently another talented Dominican fighter was added to the Deontay Wilder-Robert Helenius October 15 undercard in the form of lightweight contender Michel Rivera (23-0, 14 KOs) will face Jerry Perez. in the 10th round at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Rivera spent most of the year campaigning for a fight with undefeated WBA (Regular) champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis, but unfortunately the potential matchup never materialized. Rivera feels he’s one of the best in the heavyweight division, but he doesn’t get the same attention as the other big names, and he’s having trouble getting fights with the big names.

Jerry Perez (14-1, 11 KOs) was an undefeated flyweight until April 2021, when he was stopped by Frank Martin in the seventh round. After a 13-month hiatus from the ring, Perez returned and won a fifth-round TKO against Erick Lanzas Jr. Now Perez hopes to put together an upset victory on Saturday night and, in the process, add victory after victory. an effective 135-pound opponent on the move.
Michel Rivera feels that he is one of the best professional heavyweights; however, due to some reasons, he does not get the opportunity he deserves. Rivera is confident that he can beat the big guys, and he wants to fight the elite, but unfortunately he has not succeeded in landing one of the first matches in 2022.
Both Michel Rivera and Jerry Perez end the year with opportunities to establish career progression. For Perez, a win over Rivera would equate to the biggest win of his career, and would open the door to bigger and better opportunities in 2023.
In Michel Rivera’s case, he certainly needs to win, but he has to do it in spectacular fashion. If Rivera wants to be considered for a big chance to face a major league position, he has to make a statement on Saturday night and put in a big performance.
