By Craig Page: Ryan Garcia took to social media to complain about how “boxing is boring” because of the big fights that don’t happen.
Instead of seeing the best fights, fans will have to settle for odds involving Terence Crawford and David Avanesyan, as well as Tyson Fury defending Derek Chisora.
The previous fight was one of epic proportions, as the WBC heavyweight champion Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) defeated the 38-year-old Chisora (33-12, 23 KOs) against much higher ranked, young the fighters.
It is surprising that British fans are not worried, considering that 50,000 tickets have already been sold for the match between Fury and Chisora.
Obviously you can’t do something like that in America, because fans are more picky about buying tickets.
Three examples of major battles that do not happen are as follows:
- Ryan Garcia vs Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis
- Error Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford
- Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury

“I think Ryan Garcia vs. Tank Davis is the biggest super fight in all of boxing, and two people Tweeted last week that it’s a deal,” said Mike Coppinger to ESPN.
“They both said, ‘It’s a deal’ at the same time. They’re both trying to make a deal with each other before they move on to the hard part, which is the networking part. Ryan Garcia with DAZN, and Gervonta Davis with Showtime.
“It’s going to be difficult because, as we’ve seen before, how do you do one of these deals? You need to do a pay-per-view partnership, and DAZN and Showtime don’t get along. I think it’s going to be a way difficult, but they are trying.”
“I don’t agree with that. I don’t believe Tank vs. Garcia is the biggest commercial fight in boxing, even though Ryan Garcia has a huge social media following,” said Max Kellerman.
“He’s close to ten million followers on Instagram, and obviously, Tank is a star. He’s bringing them in, and he can move the fight because he’s a star and he’s famous. They’re both gunslingers.
“If they can do it because they’re both financially strong. If they can make this fight happen despite the odds, that sends a strong message in boxing. If the fighters want it, then the promoters and the channels communications will damn themselves. It can happen,” Kellerman said.
