By Barry Holbrook: Oleksandr Usyk says he wants Deontay Wilder after taking care of Tyson Fury in early 2023.
It was initially believed that IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) would fight Canelo Alvarez if he were to beat Fury because he said he wanted to fight the Mexican superstar.
Usyk now wants to fight former WBC champion Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) after his surprise first round knockout of Robert Helenius in a return fight on October 15th. There will be a lot of interest from the boxing world in the Usyk vs. Wilder.
The main problem with the Usyk-Wilder fight is that there will be a lot of pressure on Usyk to give Fury a chance to rematch if he beats him.
Fans will want to see a second fight between the two fighters, and a lot of money will be given to Usyk.
Additionally, it is safe to assume that Fury’s partner, Bob Arum of Top Rank, will insert a renegotiation clause in Usyk’s contract that will force him to give Tyson a second fight immediately if he beats him.

“He didn’t fight for long. He’s out of the ring, he’s taking time, he’s relaxing, he’s spending time with his family,” Usyk’s manager Alex Krassyuk told ESNEWS when asked why Fury hasn’t fought Usyk yet.
“He [Fury] he didn’t take the first chance a year ago. Well, now he said, ‘I gave him a fight.’ The offer came from Saudi Arabia, with whom we had an agreement. With Fury the battle for the unsuspecting is already on offer.
“Dillian Whyte is ready to step aside. Anthony Joshua is ready to step aside. Everything has been done to do it [Usyk vs. Fury] Last February. I can’t say he was scared, though I’ve heard rumors that he was advised not to get into this early [against Usyk].
“Usyk is a talented person. He is not in power. He has power, but it is not his greatest asset. Boxing IQ, speed, skills.
“Of course,” Krassyuk said when asked if he wanted Usyk vs. Deontay Wilder. “There is no difference in weight. Men of the same weight. The speed will be the same.
