In one of the semi-finals, Ankushita Boro, weighing 66 kg, was eliminated from the competition after losing to Khamidova Navbakhor of Uzbekistan with a score of 1:4.
The 2017 junior boxing tournament started well and she took a quick penalty kick to get the better of Khamidova but the Uzbek boxer bounced back in the next two rounds to win and book her place in the final.
Later tonight, Minakshi (52kg), Preeti (57kg), Parveen (63kg), and Saweety (81kg) will all enter the semi-final ring.
India’s total of 12 medals in the prestigious competition this year is the third highest among all competing nations.
On Thursday, five Indian boxers including six-time Asian medalist Shiva Thapa (63.5kg) and two-time Commonwealth 57kg champion Mohammed Hussamuddin will compete in the semi-finals.
Thapa, who became the most successful Asian champion in the history of the tournament with his sixth medal, will take on two-time Asian medalist Bakhodur Usmonov of Tajikistan while Hussamuddin will take on Serik Temirzhanov of Kazakhstan who won silver medal at the World Cup in 2021.
The other men in action will be Narender (92+kg), Sumit (75kg), and Govind Kumar Sahani (48kg).
The tournament is witnessing the participation of 267 boxers from 27 major boxing countries.
The finals of the women’s competition will be held on Friday, and the men’s competition will be held on Saturday.
