Matthew West will receive awards for ASCAP Christian Songwriter of the Year and Christian Song of the Year at the 44th Annual ASCAP Christian Music Awards, which will take place across all social media platforms on Wednesday (September 21).

This is the fifth time West Escap has been named Christian Songwriter of the Year. The award recognized his songs “Look What You’ve Done,” “My Jesus,” “Stain in Heaven,” “Weary Traveler” and “What If.” West, 45, has written songs for artists including Rascal Flatts, Scotty McCreary and Amy Grant. The singer and songwriter was recognized as an ASCAP Christian Songwriter-Artist in 2013, 2015 and 2016. He is a five-time Grammy nominee and has seven nominations for the upcoming 2022 Dove Awards in October. He recently published his sixth book, God who lives.

“My Jesus”, co-written by West, was honored as Christian Song of the Year. The first single by singer-songwriter Ann Wilson, the song topped both the Christian Airplay and Hot Christian Songs charts and was nominated for Top Christian Song at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. As part of the ASCAP Awards, West will tell the story behind “My Jesus” and present it in an exclusive video with Wilson.

Capitol CMG Publishing received the ASCAP Christian Music Publisher of the Year Award for the 20th consecutive year for songs including “Be Alright,” “Child of Love,” “In the House” and “Next to Me.” To celebrate the honor, the Capitol CMG publishing team will gather to accept the award in a video shared on ASCAP social media.

The social media celebration will also feature an exclusive video performance by David Spencer who will perform his hit song “In Jesus Name (God of Possible)” for Katy Nicole. Blessing Offer and Sam Ellis will each tell the story behind the award-winning “Bright Day,” and Jordan St. Cyr and co-writer AJ Preuss will explain how they created “Weary Traveler” with Matthew West.
