Dave was the big winner at the 2022 GRM Rated Awards, which focus on the UK rap and grime scene. The rapper won four awards, including Track of the Year and Video of the Year for “Clash” (featuring Stormzy).

The Rated Awards take place at Magazine London on Saturday 22 October and will be broadcast on E4 at 10pm BST on Tuesday 25 October. Big Juu and Julie Adenuga hosted the show.

Dave’s second studio album, We are all alone in this together, was named album of the year. It topped the Official UK Albums Chart for two weeks in August 2021. Dave also took home the award for Male Artist of the Year.

While accepting the award for Track of the Year, Dave discussed the long journey the song took to become a hit. The song reached number 2 on the Official UK Singles Chart.

Joining Stormzy on stage, Dave explained: “In 2019, I just finished my tour. my friend [Kyle Evans] The guys who made this song just brought out the Jordan 1s and Jordan 4s so I did the ‘Clash’ freestyle. I played Stormzy in 2020 and then a year later I got his post! A journey of four years to bring this song to you.”

Success came to teenage British hip hop duo, A1 x J1. Little Simz added the Female Artist of the Year award to her recent Mercury Prize win. Central CE continues his global rise with Home Mixtape of the Year.

Jamal Edwards, a British music entrepreneur, DJ and founder of online R&B/hip-hop platform SB.TV, has been posthumously awarded this year’s Legacy Award. Edward died on February 20 at the age of 31 of a cardiac arrhythmia caused by recreational drugs. The award was presented by Rashid Kasiriye, founder and CEO of GRM Daily, Post and founder of Link Up TV. Edwards’ mother Brenda and sister Tanisha accepted the award. The presentation included a special video produced by Jamal’s team at SBTV to celebrate Jamal’s life and legacy.

The Rated Awards were founded by GRM Daily, which has chronicled the UK rap and grime scene for over a decade. With 5 million subscribers and an online reach of over 9 million, GRM claims to be the most visited British music platform in the UK.
