AT Still University of Health Sciences (ATSU) has been named a recipient of the 2022 Health Professions Higher Education Award (HEED) by INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest publication focusing on diversity in higher education.

“ATSU thanks INSIGHT Into Diversity for recognizing the achievements of our diversity and inclusion team, students, faculty, and staff,” said ATSU President Craig Phelps, DO, ’84. “It is an honor to be included with other institutions recognized for their commitment to excellence in diversity.”

“Receiving this award continues to be a humbling experience that underscores ATSU’s commitment to cultural prowess,” said Clinton Normore, MBA, ATSU’s vice president of diversity & inclusion. “Diversity, equality and inclusion are at the core of the University’s mission. We take the metrics defined in the HEED Awards seriously and regularly assess the University’s culture to meet our high expectations of educational excellence, access, opportunity and exceptional service. We thank the HEED Award review committee for recognizing this effort.”

ATSU supports students studying and serving in diverse, underserved, urban, and rural communities around the world. INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine chose ATSU for its deep commitment to an educational and collaborative environment that embraces cultural prowess, highlighted by the University’s innovative Dreamline Pathways program.

Through Dreamline Pathways, ATSU partners with school districts and community-based organizations, offering students experiential learning opportunities. This collaboration introduces young minds to career opportunities in the healthcare field, and nurtures students through campus and graduate student engagement opportunities.

Dreamline Pathways received the 2022 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine earlier this year.

ATSU was the first comprehensive healthcare professional university to be named a HEED Award recipient in consecutive years (2018) and has now extended its achievements to a sixth year in a row. The university will appear alongside 64 other recipients in the December 2022 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.

“The Health Professions HEED Award process consists of a comprehensive and rigorous application that includes questions relating to student and employee recruitment and retention — and best practices for both — ongoing leadership support for diversity, and other aspects of campus diversity and inclusion,” said Lenore. Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. “We took a detailed approach to reviewing each application in deciding who would be named a recipient of the Health Professions HEED Award. Our standards are high, and we look for schools where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work that is done every day on their campus.”
