Usually, at LadiesGamers we write video game reviews, however, for once this review is about a gaming product. So recently, I put the PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S and PC, through its steps.
PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S & PC
The controller, which is a gorgeous cotton wool blue (other colors are available), isn’t just for Xbox Series X|S. The PowerA controller can also be used on Windows 10 and 11 computers.
It arrived at my doorstep via Heaven Media mail in a well-packaged box. The box contains the cotton blue controller, a detachable 10ft (3m) white USB cable, and an instruction booklet.
An excited child at Christmas
After opening the box like an excited kid at Christmas, I wanted to test the controller. It feels big in the hands, although not too big. My hands would be medium sized, and the controller fits comfortably in my hands. I can reach all the buttons without stretching my fingers too much. The controller has a smooth, glossy finish on the top, and the underside is textured to help improve grip.
Ergonomically Shaped
The PowerA Enhanced Carat Controller is also ergonomically shaped. All the face and shoulder buttons are within easy reach of my fingers. It’s a nice solid feel in the hands, although it’s not heavy to hold for long innings. In addition, when playing for hours, the controller remained easy to hold. Even with my sweat drops holding it, thanks to the textured grip on the back.
The controller has the classic button layout we’re all used to with A, B, X, and Y face buttons. With Left, Right, ZL and ZR shoulder buttons and Left and Right sticks. All buttons are responsive and have a great feel, with good spring back when pressed. The L and R sticks have anti-friction rings around the base of the stick which seems to give the stick more support as you move them. Share button lets you share screenshots and short clips with fellow gamers or save screenshots of your gameplay.
The rods work as they should, and rotate well in their positions. But, of course, the overall test of how good a controller is will be in months, as we all know how the dreaded stick drift can render the stick useless.
Two Advanced Mappable Buttons
In addition, there are also two advanced mappable buttons on the underside of the controller. The mappable buttons can be quickly programmed mid-game, which I tested on my laptop while playing the Witcher 3. For example, I mapped Geralt’s sword to the mappable button and had a ton of time taking out some witches.
The PowerA Enhanced Carat Controller USB cable is detachable, so you can remove it when not in use. In addition, the cable reduces input latency and lag compared to a wireless controller, and I found this to be true with the Enchanted Wired Controller when I compared it to my wireless controller.
The 10ft USB cable is long enough for anyone’s needs unless you plan to play your Xbox or PC sitting in your garden while your TV is in the living room, although you may need binoculars to see your TV if that’s the case. The USB cable has a velcro strap to make it convenient to keep the cable in one place when you’re not using it. My only complaint about the cable is that it is white, white gets dirty quickly compared to black, but it matches the color of the controller.
Rumble Feature and Stereo Headset Jack
This officially licensed Xbox controller has dual rumble motors, emitting a beautiful rumble. However, it’s not an overly violent rumble like some controllers that can vibrate off a table if you leave them sitting. But you do know that it rattles in your hand.
3.5mm Stereo Headphone Jack
Most people, including myself, use Bluetooth headphones and earplugs these days. I did try the 3.5mm stereo headphone jack and plugged my Bose Bluetooth Headphones into it (they also have a 3.5mm stereo jack). The sound quality is quite good; wearing headphones enhances your gaming experience by immersing you further into the gameplay. There is a small clear switch on the controller, headphone jack, which is used to turn the microphone off or on and change the volume.
However, while I was fine using the headphones with the 3.5mm jack. In the end, it involved too many leads running between me, the controller and my laptop. I would end up connecting myself with all the cables. So, instead, I’ll continue to use Bluetooth headphones and use the controller for its intended purpose, to control the game.
Overall, I like the new one PowerA enhanced controller. I used PowerA gaming accessories before and found them to be of good quality. I would recommend it to fellow gamers.
