New Mexico State Police are investigating several fatal crashes this month.
On Nov. 4, New Mexico State Police officers in Quay County responded to the Quay Road AD near the U.S. Highway 54 intersection following reports of a vehicle that had collided with a train, according to a news release.
“The initial investigation revealed that for unknown reasons, a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Abraham Riquiac-Gonzalez, 30, with a passenger, Pedro Jimon, 38, of Clovis, was traveling northbound on Quay Road AD, crossed the railroad tracks and was struck by a freight train at in the western direction,” the release states. “Both passengers sustained fatal injuries during the collision and were pronounced dead at the scene… The train drivers were not injured.”
Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
A three-vehicle crash on NM 128 west of Jal killed 18-year-old Francisco Saenz Hinojos of El Paso Wednesday morning, according to a news release.
“For unknown reasons, (Hinojos) crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2014 Volvo commercial vehicle traveling westbound on NM 128. The impact caused the Volvo to collide with a 2022 Ford F-250 traveling eastbound “, the release states. “Hinojos suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Medical Examiner.”
Police say the driver of the Volvo was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the other people involved in the crash were not injured.
According to the report, alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
In another crash that happened Friday around 6:30 p.m. near Vaughn on U.S. Highway 54, Aaron Janzi, 36, of Corona, was driving a 2022 Ford Ranger “when, for an unknown reason, he crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with head with a 2014 GMC minivan traveling southbound,” the press release said.
Gianci suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 35-year-old driver of the van was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the report.
“Alcohol and speed appear to have contributed to this crash,” the report said.
