Lentner, Missouri (October 24, 2022) – One person was killed in a crash in Shelby County. On October 21, Missouri State Highway Patrol officers responded to an accident on US Highway 36.

A 2008 Buick Lacrosse struck the rear of a 2004 Ford Ranger on US Highway 36 just one mile east of Lentner, Missouri, around 6:50 p.m., according to local law enforcement. As a result of the accident, the Ford flew off the roadway, ran onto the embankment and ejected both passengers. The Buick then went off the north side of the roadway and came to rest in a field.

The driver of the Ford, 64-year-old Charles Craig of Clarence, Missouri, was fatally injured in the crash. County Deputy Shelby Brown pronounced Craig dead at the scene. His passenger, 50-year-old Constance Romanetto of Clarence, Missouri, was taken to the University of Missouri Hospital for serious injuries. The driver of the Buick, Jerry Phifer, 47, of Shellbine, Missouri, was taken by Monroe County EMS to Hannibal Regional Hospital for minor injuries.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash.
