Have you ever been excited about a gift only to find socks? While there’s nothing wrong with socks, they’re not overly exciting. That’s what it was like when the Ford Ranger returned to North America. We were excited to see this midsize truck take its rightful place in the lineup again, but it felt like we got a pair of socks instead of the cool gift we were hoping for. Will any of this change with the 2023 Ford Ranger? Will this midsize truck continue to be a useful but bland pair of socks in its class?
It’s only been four years, but the 2023 Ford Ranger is due for a facelift

RELATED: What’s the worst full-size truck you can buy?
The 2023 model year marks just four years of the Ranger midsize truck on the market. This truck can be skipped unless we see significant changes to this truck. Even though this Ford truck came with only one powertrain, it was as useful as your favorite pair of socks and quickly became a popular choice again.
In fact, the Ranger and what it brought to the market has now influenced a couple of GM’s Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. Far be it from GM to admit it, but these two trucks forgo a variety of powertrains and body configurations similar to what we find in the Ranger.
Will the Ranger get an update before 2023, or will it stick with the same design as before?

We are aware of some changes for the latest model year of the Ford Ranger mid-size truck. It runs on an updated version of its platform. MotorTrend tells us that these changes, while unspecified, should be enough to keep the Ranger competitive with the rest of the segment. If you’ve noticed, most midsize trucks now offer an off-road orientation, leaving the compact class for on-road needs.
Will we see hybrid or electric versions of the Ford Ranger in 2023?
We likely won’t have a hybrid or EV version of the Ranger for the 2023 model year. These power settings should arrive for future models. Given that Ford already has the electric F-150 Lightning, the hybrid F-150 PowerBoost, and the hybrid Maverick, the 2023 Ranger looks like it was left out.
The Ranger’s current powertrain is slated to be carried over to 2023, but electrified and hybrid versions of this mid-size truck are already on the way. For now, we’ll have to make do with the 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and 10-speed automatic transmission. The good news is that 2023 may see an increase in output for this powerplant, but we won’t know until it arrives.
Could you buy a more exciting Ford midsize truck?

Of course, if you want a more exciting version of the 2023 Ford Ranger, look no further than the powerful new Ford Ranger Raptor. Perfect for any off-road situation you’ll find yourself in, this truck is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 392 horsepower. This truck features locking front and rear differentials, increased ground clearance, and 33-inch all-terrain tires.
Should You Consider Buying a 2023 Ford Ranger?
