The front end of the 2023 Ranger midsize truck comes directly from the larger Ford F-150. It brings bold style to a smaller truck, creating a pickup that makes a big difference. Opening the cabin door reveals a large, vertically oriented infotainment system that gives you a sense of deja vu as you’ve seen the same screen in the Ford Edge midsize SUV.
The Ranger has more body styles than competing trucks
Surprisingly, the Ford Ranger may have inspired GM to simplify things in the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, but Ford continues to offer two body styles. The mid-size Ranger truck offers a four-door crew cab or an extended cab with two rear half-doors. GM moved to a single body style for all midsize trucks.
Is the 2023 Ford Ranger a better midsize truck than the Toyota Tacoma?
The Ford Ranger’s EcoBoost engine allows this midsize truck to outperform the Toyota Tacoma in many ways. Even a V6-powered Tacoma can’t match the 7,500-pound towing capacity of the Ranger’s turbocharged 4-cylinder powerplant. The Ford truck has better traction, more torque, and better gas mileage, making it an overall better truck than the Tacoma.
The name Ford Raptor is part of the Ranger line
We finally have the Ford Ranger Raptor in the United States. This has been a sore spot for many truck enthusiasts for several years. We’ve seen videos of the Raptor midsize truck in Australia and other parts of the world, but it wasn’t offered here.
The new 2023 Ford Raptor version of the Ranger midsize truck offers the off-road benefits you need for racing through the desert or climbing hills in the woods. This new truck is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 392 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, and you’ll have standard 4WD in this truck. If you’re looking for exciting news in the 2023 midsize truck market, this is it.
How much do we expect the 2023 Ranger to cost?
Pricing and final specifications for the 2023 Ford Ranger mid-size truck have yet to be released. That said, early-order forms are available for this truck, and we’re expecting a starting price of around $28,000.
When to expect a new generation of Ford Ranger mid-size truck?
The next-generation Ford Ranger is due to arrive in the US in the 2024 model year. It may be available in other markets in 2023, but those markets will have features we don’t expect to find in North America, like a diesel powertrain.
We expect that when the 2024 model arrives, it will have an updated powertrain and a hybrid option. An electric version may arrive before this model year, but the EV Ranger could be a year behind the hybrid.
