The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a three-car crash that killed a La Grulla man Sunday night.

The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. Sunday on SH 48 in Cameron County when a 2003 Ford Ranger was southbound without lights in the eastbound lanes “for unknown reasons,” according to a news release.

A 2005 GMC Sierra traveling eastbound in the outside lanes collided with a Ford Ranger. The crash sent the Ford Ranger into the westbound lanes of SH 48, where it collided with a westbound Chevrolet Malibu, the news release said.

The second collision ejected the driver of the Ford, 71-year-old Eriberto Solis, from the vehicle, according to the release.

“[Solis] was taken to Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, where he died of his injuries,” the news release said.

Further details of the investigation are pending notification of next of kin, DP spokesman Sgt. – added Maria Montalvo.
