A magistrate from the Eastern Cape was killed in an attack on her family near Mbizana on Saturday night.

Police spokesman Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said the 38-year-old woman’s husband was seriously injured in the incident, which happened on a road in a local village.

Her 13-year-old son was also injured, and her 10-year-old son was unharmed.

Kinana said the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, has set up a task force of investigators to trace and trace the culprits.

He said the judge was traveling from a local village with her husband and children near the Faith Mission Church in Nomlaku area when a Ford Ranger bakkie appeared.

Keenana said unknown assailants opened fire on the family car, killing the judge, who was said to be stationed at eMaxesibeni (Mount Ayliff).

According to him, the injured man took his family to the nearest hospital for medical assistance.

“The motives of the attack on the spouses are currently unknown. However, the police have registered a case of murder and three cases of attempted murder for investigation.”
