By Craig Page: Fans are waiting for Devin Haney to say whether he will give Vasyl Lomachenko a chance to fight for his lightweight championship if he defeats Jamaine Ortiz this Saturday night in their ESPN title in New York.

Top Rank wants Haney to defend Lomachenko in the third round of his fight contract.

The first two fights for Haney under contract with Top Rank were a lightweight match against George Kambosos Jr, who stumbled in taking the belt from the injured & ailing Teofimo Lopez in 2021.

Understandably, American boxing fans weren’t happy with any of Haney’s fights with Kambosos, because they didn’t see any kind of match.

Given that, Top Rank wants Haney’s third fight under his contract to be against Lomachenko, but it remains to be seen if he will go along with the plan.

Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) is looking forward to his last fight with George Kambosos Jr. opportunity. to fight for his four belts.

The excuse is there for Haney if he decides he wants no part of fighting Lomachenko before moving up to heavyweight.

Not only is there an issue with Devin’s weight, but also, Lomachenko didn’t give him a shot when he was pushing for the fight in 2019. If Haney wants to pay, he can ignore Loma, and tell his fans that he doesn’t want to. . to give him the chance to fight three years ago, so he is treating him like this.

If the Haney-Lomachenko fight happens, Lomachenko wins easily. He has more skill, experience, strength, speed, and overall ability than Haney.

Haney’s reluctance to come out and say that he will give Top Rank what they want by fighting Lomachenko shows that he may know that he is not good enough to win.

If Haney thinks he can win, he will fight to increase his popularity by defeating one of the biggest names in the heavyweight division.

So far, Haney has not beaten a well-respected fighter to increase his popularity to the level of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis or even Ryan Garcia. Haney’s fighting style was not enough for the average fan to make him famous.
