Carl Froch believes he should consider the UK’s success in Matchroom and Anthony Joshua’s sell-out Wembley Stadium.

“Cobra” discussed the situation regarding England’s national stadium as Tyson Fury tried to do the same at Tottenham Hotspurs stadium.

Froch sees the fight against George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium, which has been his staple for years, opening the door for the likes of Anthony Joshua to continue to do so.

The Nottingham man said his fight with Groves set Eddie Hearn on the path to success, something the Essex man has struggled to replicate without Joshua.

Froch believes that he single-handedly saved the Pay Per View market on British soil in the last brag.

“This fight with George Groves at Wembley set the precedent for future fights,” Froch told William Hill’s Stripped Podcast.

“Eddie Hearn and I were good to each other. He was good to me because he brought me back to Sky Sports. I brought Pay Per View back.

“That fight with George Groves led to what Eddie Hearn has done today. He’ll tell you exactly that.

“He worked hard and did his part. I fought with success and defeated Groves in this match. As for Anthony Joshua, without this Groves fight, would that have happened?

“Is he going to do that Wembley fight? People know now that they can go to Wembley and sell it for boxing.

“You’ve got someone like AJ fighting Wladimir Klitschko for a world title. It won’t be anywhere else but Wembley Stadium.

“So the Groves fight was probably the catalyst for what Eddie Hearn did with Matchroom.

“If you are a fighter now and you are a world champion, you have the opportunity to make a lot of money. That goes for Eddie Hearn and myself.

“I take credit for that. Eddie Hearn would probably agree.”

It’s not like Carl Froch was being modest about his tenure, even though his career was in the backwoods of British TV before he met Hearn.

His fight against Glenn Johnson in June 2011 failed to get a UK TV network willing to broadcast it despite being a world title fight and a Showtime Super Series Semi-final.

Froch kept his place against Andre Ward and lost. He then found a friend in Hearn who managed to save his British name in a surprising way.

It is unlikely that Froch will be able to rewrite such history after an eight-year retirement.
