Touted as a can’t-miss boxing opportunity, Robeisy Ramirez is expected to dominate most of his opponents, at least in the early going. However, as the former two-time Olympic gold medalist made his way to the professional games, he suffered an unexpected setback in his debut.

However, despite his first loss, the 28-year-old bounced back well, racking up ten consecutive victories leading up to his most recent ring appearance.

First off, with a world title opportunity looming very close, Robeisy believes a fight with former champion, Jessie Magdaleno is just what the doctor ordered. Originally, the two were scheduled to square off in tonight’s main event at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater.

Although he happily accepted Magdaleno’s challenge, he was ultimately disappointed as the former champion was forced to withdraw due to a hand injury. In his place, the unannounced Jose Matias Romero took the call.

Seen as the underdog of the night, Ramirez punched his man at the opening bell.

In the opening frame, a cautious Ramirez came out of his corner. After observing his man in the first three minutes, Ramirez went to work in the second. The New York crowd roared in approval as the former Olympian found his left hand perfectly home.

Unable to find an answer to what Ramirez threw in his direction, Romero began to buckle under intense pressure.

After being buzzed around several times, Ramirez tried to seal the deal in the seventh. But surprisingly, Romero bit his mouth and started fighting with fire.

While valiant in his efforts, Romero appeared exhausted in the ninth. Not long after, the star of the Cuban player shot, where he shot one after the other on his man until the referee stopped their fight.
