Taylor returns to defend her lightweight title in London against Carabajal, an undefeated Argentine who will be a formidable opponent and has never stepped into the ring with anyone close to Taylor’s level or achievements. The card also features Jordan Gill vs. Kiko Martinez for the European bantamweight title, which could be a thrilling fight, Mary Romero vs. Ellie Scotney for the European junior featherweight title, and Gary Cully vs. Jaouad Belmehdi. Johnny Fisher is also at work, as are others. The Evil Left will have live coverage.
ESPN+, 5:30 p.m. ET, Vasily Lomachenko vs Jamaine Ortiz. This is exclusive to ESPN+, not part of the “main card” on ESPN. The “after show” is scheduled to start at midnight ET, so expect the main event around 10:30 or 11 ET, probably, but keep scrolling if you’re itching not to miss it. A win here would likely earn Loma a chance to face Devin Haney in the fall. Robeisy Ramirez is in the mix, although not against Jessie Magdaleno as in the original plan. Wil Esco will be on camera. A match that slipped under the radar because Golden Boy and/or DAZN made the terrible decision to push it a week into what was the third main event while it was on the air, but a good fight here. Diaz is a proven product, tough as hell, a good fighter and boxer, and Zepeda is trying to break through as a real contender. This is Zepeda’s chance to do just that. PPV, 9:00 p.m. ET, Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva. If you’re just completely sick of the Jake Paul thing, I get it. To me, I’m very interested here, because while it’s “new” in a sense, it’s a legitimate test of Paul’s skills. Silva may be 47 years old, but he beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a straight boxing match. on the road in Mexico in 2021, and is still the biggest opponent Paul has fought to date. This isn’t Ben Askren, who can’t box, or Tyron Woodley, who mostly refuses to, this is a man who could make boxing a professional career if that’s what he chooses to do. and mind it like 30 years ago. He is the greatest fighter of all time. Uriah Hall will face Le’Veon Bell which could be a bad mistake for Bell, and Ashton Sylve and more on the credit card. I will have live coverage for this one.
