By Barry Holbrook: Oleksandr Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas says they are “done” at the end of talks with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in early 2023.
Now, they are just waiting for Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs), which IBF, WBA & WBO champion Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) means as a “Boy [drunkard].”
If Fury messes up the conversation with Usyk like he messed up the conversation with Anthony Joshua, we won’t have a conflict at the beginning of next year.
Usyk wants to fight Fury, but he apparently has a backup plan in case the talks go down in flames. Deontay Wilder same to you Canelo Alvarez They are two interesting options for 2012 gold medalist Usyk if he can fight Fury.
Deontay is very interested in the fight with Usyk, but it is not known if Canelo feels the same way.
“Everything is being done from our side. Everything. So only one person can say, ‘Yes, we will go,’ and that’s Fury,” said Egis Klimas to Secondsout about the discussion between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
“Then we’ll go and unify the titles with Chisora,” Klimas said when asked what would happen if Derek Chisora upsets Fury on December 3.
“It’s boxing. Sometimes you can beat, sometimes you can lose, sometimes you can draw, and all kinds of different things happen.
“We’ll think about it,” Klimas said when asked if Usyk would retire if he beat Fury to become the undisputed champion. “How can we give up all our titles and take all the cruiserweight titles?
“As Oleksandr said in his interview, ‘It’s Fury boracho [drunkard],’ Klimas said when asked if he felt Fury was difficult to deal with because of his constant state of affairs.
“I’m already used to it. No news. Size difference, of course. Usyk is not allowed. He is a giant. Don’t assume it’s bad. He is a good warrior. He was a brilliant man, first of all.
“Secondly, he has a good boxing IQ. So he is a very dangerous warrior. Much respect Anthony [Joshua] ever. Before the fight, after the fight, during the fight. He loosened up a bit after the second fight, but it didn’t matter.
“The big guy beat him with the little guy, so, of course, he wasn’t happy. It’s understandable,” said Klimas.
