New Ring Magazine Heavyweights Have Deontay Wilder At NO1

What form of boxing do you follow, if any? For some, BoxRec’s independent ratings are the safest, most unbiased. For others, the boxing rankings published by Ring Magazine, “The Boxing Bible,” are the steps to follow. That said, Ring Magazine’s new heavyweight ranking may be controversial, as is Deontay Wilder’s promotion to the number one ranking.

Wilder, as we know, returned to action on October 15, when he returned to work after one year in the ring. Facing his old opponent Robert Helenius in his first fight after two fights against Tyson Fury, Wilder defeated the finn in cold and impressive fashion. But is this one round enough to give Wilder the number one ranking in the heavyweight division of the world?

Here’s the new Top-10, as of October 22nd:

Champ – Oleksandr Usyk

1: Deontay Wilder
2: Anthony Joshua
3: Joe Joyce
4: Andy Ruiz Jr
5: Dillian Whyte
6: Luis Ortiz
7: Joseph Parker
8: Filip Hrgovic
9: Frank Sanchez
10: Zhilei Zhang

So, how do you feel about being Wilder as a top dog, wise? There’s no denying Wilder’s power, we all know that. But does Wilder really deserve to be at the top of the pile? Then again, if not Wilder, then who? Tyson Fury disappeared from the ring as Fury “retired” and has yet to fight again (in fact, on December 3, he will fight Derek Chisora, and it will be interesting to see where supporters at Ring Magazine put the reigning WBC Heavyweight Champion in their ranks after defeating Chisora).

Does Joyce deserve to be number 1? Joyce is coming off of an impressive KO win over Parker. Joshua can’t be put on top, because he hasn’t won since December 2020. Wilder is probably in the number one position, pretty much due to the lack of any real options like anything else.

In any case, discuss the new Ring ranking if you want.
