Mistake Spence “Not Keen On” Fight Keith Thurman | Biden News

By Brian Webber: Commentator Al Bernstein has serious doubts about whether IBF, WBA & WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr intends to defend Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman next.

Bernstein can’t put his finger on it, but he feels there’s something about Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) that makes Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) reluctant to draw attention to this fight, even though he and. the second highest money match in the 147-lb division after a collision with Terence Crawford.

When a fighter chooses not to fight that would make them very rich, it tells you something about them and what is going on in their mind.

It’s possible that Spence doesn’t think he can beat Thurman. So in order to avoid defeat, Spence chose not to face him, adding Thurman to the list of undesirable opponents like lions. Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and Vergio Ortiz Jr.

Maybe Spence doesn’t think he can beat Thurman, or maybe he sees it as a more intimidating affair than his last fight against Yordenis Ugaas last April. In this fight, Spence was seriously injured at one point and he was lucky that Ugaas didn’t finish him off after he was knocked down.

“It’s a fight that people want to see, and a lot of people think it’s going to be a comeback fight for Spence, but I think, I didn’t know that Errol Spence was in a rush to fight Keith Thurman” said commentator Al Bernstein for Fighthype.

It’s clear that Spence doesn’t want any smoke from Thurman because this is the former king of the welterweight division, who is arguably still close to the level he was when he ruled the heavyweight division five years ago.

On paper, Thurman is a bad matchup for Spence because he is very skilled, has good control, and sets up a trap that Errol will run into with his next fighting style.

“I don’t think it’s okay to avoid him. I’m just thinking there was something going on there that he just wasn’t interested in. I don’t know that he wants to give Thurman a chance at that title.

“I don’t know that for sure, but that’s my feeling, I think so,” Bernstein said of how Spence paid Thurman for ignoring him.
