Former UFC bantamweight title challenger Marlon Moraes feels former training partner and rival José Aldo should return to boxing.
Aldo announced his retirement from MMA after an epic streak in the cage that included championships in the UFC and WEC. His reign as UFC featherweight champion will go down as one of the longest in UFC history.
Moraes, who is set to make his PFL debut next month, faced Aldo in his first bantamweight title fight at UFC 245. He defeated Aldo by decision in a fight that many felt was Aldo’s deserved to win on the judges’ cards.
Moraes and Aldo have been training together in Brazil before Moraes moved to the United States full time. He knows what’s going on with one of the legends of the UFC.
Aldo is done with MMA but has not ruled out returning to boxing in the future. If that’s the case, Moraes feels Aldo can have a lot of success in the ring.
Marlon Moraes thinks José Aldo can win in Boxing
During an exclusive interview with MMA News, Moraes shared his thoughts on Aldo’s future in boxing.
“I think he can do well,” Moraes said. “He is a tough man, and I think boxing will be a little easier on his body. MMA includes wrestling, kickboxing, and jiu-jitsu. Boxing, you only use the big body. Of course you do the music, but it’s easy on your body… he was one of the best fighters and this guy can do whatever he wants.
Aldo has been teased about trying to get into boxing for years, going back to 2017. He doesn’t have a professional boxing match in his history.
Moraes is looking to make a comeback next month against Shane Burgos in the 2022 PFL Championship. He has decided to retire and hope to compete in the PFL next year.
Aldo could become the latest former UFC fighter to make the transition to boxing with successful results, following in the footsteps of Vitor Belfort and Anderson Silva. If Moraes’ words are anything to go by, he could make a name for himself in this next chapter of his fight game.
