Vasyl Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs) was forced to fight hard to defeat the unbeaten Jamaine ‘The Technician’ Ortiz (16-1-1, 8 KOs) with a 12 round unanimous decision in a tough fight on the day Saturday night in Madison. Garden Square in New York.
As in his fight with Teofimo Lopez, Lomachenko started slowly, appearing to give away the first round against the bigger & heavier Ortiz, who looks like a great heavyweight tonight after re-watering.
From the fifth round, Lomachenko took over the fight, thanks to Ortiz taking out the gas, and from that moment it was mostly Loma.

In a joint fight, a heavyweight fighter Robey Ramirez (11-1, 7 KOs) stopped Jose Matias Romero (26-3, 9 KOs) by the ninth round.
Cuban two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy was hit by a good left hand to the head from Romero in the ninth round, forcing him to retire with leg injuries.
Ramirez then went after Romero’s injury, scoring two goals, which caused the referee to stop the fight. The match was then stopped at 2:20 of the round.
Earlier in the fight, Robeisy dropped Romero in the first round. It’s more of a knockout than the situation where Romero was injured.
Overall, Robeisy was not very impressive tonight, as he fought as if he was afraid of passing out.
So instead of going after Romero with combinations, Robeisy threw a lot of shots and always showed up between shots. There was a lot of wasted time with Robeisy pointing rather than letting his hand go.
In the fan position, Robeisy was the best fighter, fighting with speed and strength. Unfortunately, Robeisy doesn’t look anywhere near this good as a pro, which is why he’s already gone.
Next up for Robeisy is Isaac Dogboe as the vacant WBO title contender.
The undefeated 2020 Olympian Super Heavyweight silver medalist Richard Torrez Jr. (4-0, 4 KOs) pitched the upset Ahmed Hefny (13-3, 5 KOs) by the third round.
Torrez Jr defeated Hefny three times, dropping him in each round before the contest was stopped for the third time.
6’2″ southpaw Torrez Jr loads up everything he throws and looks to score on the fly instead of working on his technique. The fight was stopped at 2:32 of the third round.
Torrez Jr. has good power, but his technique is not good, and he has not changed from the man who was destroyed twice by Bakhodir Jalolov in the fans. It is easy to hit on the road because of its short length and the way it does not penetrate.
Top Rank needs to get Torrez Jr a good trainer who can teach him some routines and make him use the lesser opposition that is being fed to him to improve his game instead of trying to take them out right away.
Light weight light weight Duke Ragan (8-0, 1 KO) took several right hands to the head in the process of winning an eighth round unanimous decision over the undrafted. Luis LeBron (18-5-1, 11 KOs).
Lebron took Ragan out on his feet in the seventh round after tagging him with a big right hand to the head. The scores were 77-75, 78-74, and 79-73.
Grandson of Muhammad Ali, middleweight Nico Ali Walsh (7-0, 5 KOs), they were forced to fight harder than expected to be beaten Billy Wagner (5-3, 1 KOs) by six round decision.
Walsh, a 29-year-old native of Montana, Wagner shined all night, making the round difficult to score. The judges scored it 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55.
Walsh couldn’t separate himself from Wagner, and he might want to take him back to see if he can improve on that performance because this isn’t the kind of fight he can be proud of.
2020 Olympian, lightweight Delante ‘Tiger’ Johnson (6-0, 4 KOs) has maintained his perfect record, hitting him Esteban Garcia (15-2, 7 KOs) and six round overall decision with scores 60-54, 60-54, and 60-54.
Average weight Troy Isley (8-0, 4 KOs) beat Quincy Lavallais (14-4-1, 9 KOs) by a sweet eight round overall decision with scores 79-73, 80-72, and 80-72.
Really lightweight Abdullah Mason (5-0, 4 KOs) knocked out Angel Barrera (4-1, 0 KOs) in the fourth round. Mason unloaded on Barrera in the 3rd round, putting him on the canvas twice.
In the third round, Mason continued to fight against Barrera, causing the referee to step in and turn his head away from the fight. The stoppage time was at :21 of the fourth.
Estimated feather size Haven Brady Jr (8-0, 4 KOs) beat Eric Mondragon is a man on the moon (7-1-1, 4 KOs) and another eight round overall decision with scores 78-74, 79-73, and 79-73.

Ortiz believes he can stop Lomachenko
“There are very few takeaways from the session. Sparring is interesting,” said Jamaine ‘The Technician’ Ortiz for Fighthype, when asked about his previous sparring with Vasyl Lomachenko.
“I think he’s trying to wear his opponents down mentally,” Jamaine said of Lomachenko. “About everything, I got attention.
“It will be the same for the next two fights. I will be a citizen. I was the one against Herring, and I beat him. I am inferior to Lomachenko. I will beat him. I’ll probably be under Haney, and I’ll beat him.
“It’s something I’m used to. I believe so,” Ortiz said when asked if he thought he could stop Lomachenko.
“Each person is working on something unique to their opponents. Time found me the day I was born. I’m ready for this.
“I’m not angry. I don’t pay much attention to the media, so I don’t hear a lot of the content,” Ortiz said of how the media is already talking about Lomachenko facing Devin Haney next.
“After October 29, it will be a different story. This is boxing. Anything can happen, and it will happen. After this date, all those posters that talked about Devin Haney’s future are changing, and my face will be there.
“Yes,” Jamiine said when asked if he plans to be Haney’s next opponent. “I think myself to be uncontroversial. We will see.
“Devin Haney’s got all the belts,” Jamaine said when asked who he thinks is better at 135 right now. “They are beautiful [Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis], but Devin Haney got all the belts. So he is the best at 135; he is the undisputed one, and the wisest talent is Lomachenko, who I am facing.
“I probably see Davis winning. Anything can happen,” Ortiz said of the Davis vs. Tank fight. Ryan Garcia.
