Vasyl Lomachenko and Jamaine Ortiz (16-0-1, 8 KOs), as well as two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramirez & Jose Matias Romero, discussed their fight on Thursday for this Saturday’s card on ESPN at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) returns from defending his country from invasion. He needs a win to keep his hopes alive for a fight against Devin Haney for the lightweight title in early 2023.
Ortiz is arguably the best opponent Lomachenko has fought in years, and he is not one to ignore.
The 26-year-old Jermaine defeated former WBO featherweight champion Jamel Herring last May, which sent the 36-year-old into retirement.
“I just wanted to bring sports attention to our country. And on Saturday, that is, Sunday morning in Ukraine, I want people to change their minds to have fun,” said Lomachenko.
It will help generate interest on Saturday’s card if Devin Haney confirms that he plans to defend Lomachenko next, but so far, he hasn’t said anything about taking that fight.
It appeared to some that Haney did not like the idea of facing Lomachenko and possibly losing. If Haney chooses not to take the fight, he will move up and move to 140, giving up his four 135-lb belts.
Lomachenko will likely fight #2 Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz for the WBC lightweight title.
“This fight means everything to me. This is something that I have expressed in my life, finally fighting Lomachenko,” said Ortiz.
“I think the opponent in front of you shows what kind of fighter you are. I think Lomachenko will take out the best of Jamaine Ortiz. A battle that everyone around me knows. You’ll see the real ‘Technician’ on Saturday night.”
In the main support fight, the talented featherweight contender Robeisy Ramirez (10-1, 6 KOs) will be looking to win his 11th consecutive victory against his opponent Jose Matias Romero (26-2, 9 KOs).
Robeisy wants a world title shot in 2023, but it remains to be seen if Top Rank can get it. It is not necessary for any of the champions, so it is possible that Robeisy needs to keep winning until he can win the cup, maybe in 2024.
Romero’s only wins came against Michel Rivera and Isaac Cruz.
