Irish boxer Katie Taylor’s big win earlier this year against Amanda Serrano seems to have had a huge commercial impact.

London-based media outlet SportsPro released its list of the world’s most marketable athletes on Monday, and Taylor was ranked 47th – the first boxer to appear on the list.

Other fighters in the top 100 include Canelo Alvarez, who holds the top middleweight title at No. 64, undefeated WBC champion Tyson Fury at No. 75, and Anthony Joshua is ranked 88.

In 2021, SportsPro named Alvarez as the 4th best player in the world. He is the oldest man in the series. Another boxer who appeared in the top 100 is Gervonta Davis at number 75.

In 2020, SportsPro named Ryan Garcia as the No. 12 most marketable players. Joshua is 31st and Fury is 32nd.

The top 10 players selected in 2022 featured the following stars:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo, Soccer

2. Serena Williams, Tennis

3. Lewis Hamilton, Motorsport

4. LeBron James, NBA

5. Lionel Messi, Football

6. Naomi Osaka, Tennis

7. Virat Kohli, Cricket

8. Alex Morgan, Football

9. Sam Kerr, Football

10. Tom Brady, NFL

There are no MMA fighters in the 2022 top 100.

SportsPro released the following statement explaining their position:

“To compile this year’s 50 Most Marketable Athletes list, SportsPro partner NorthStar Solutions Group led a team of experts in sports, marketing, social, and data science. Professional partners D-Tag Analytics, SponsorPulse and Zoomph all contributed metrics that fed the modeling process that shaped the final rankings. Additional insights from users and experts helped ensure the correct quality of the numbers.

“Players are ranked based on the ‘Business Score’, which is divided into three different categories of scores: brand strength, economy and audience. Created to accurately evaluate a player’s business, the rating is not only based on social media followers or reach, but also takes into account the player’s social impact, charitable efforts and impact on the triple bottom line. To compile the final list, more than 700 athletes who met the criteria were followed and analyzed in their measurements in 2022.”

The 36-year-old Taylor (21-0, 6 KOs) is a 2012 Olympic gold medalist who defeated Serrano in a controversial decision in the main event at Madison Square Garden in April. The fight is on the list of those who will compete this year.

Bantamweight champion Taylor is set to return to the ring against Karen Elizabeth Carabajal (19-0, 2 KOs) at Wembley Arena in London on October 29.
