By Jim Calfa: Janibek Alimkhanuly has the chance tonight to develop his star power in a big way against Denzel Bentley in a fight recorded on ESPN +. Alimkhanuly (12-0, 8 KOs) makes his WBO middleweight debut on a card that begins at 7:15 pm ET / 4:15 pm PT at the Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
For Bentley to have a chance to win, he will need to get in the hole and be ready to take a shot from Janibek because he won’t win by cowering.
Bentley played well in his first round loss to Felix Cash last year, and has not been in this fight since the start.
If Bentley fights like this tonight, he won’t get out of the first round because Janibek is bigger, faster, and more efficient than Cash. Janibek is like a middleweight version of Naoya Inoue.
Southpaw Janibek, a 2016 Olympian from Kazahstan, has been compared to Gennadiy Golovkin in terms of punching.
Janibek doesn’t smile and laugh like Golovkin did when he was in the prime of his career, winning over the American audience, but he has similar power and better hand speed. Janibek threw more combinations than Golovkin did in the zenith of his career, and he preferred to connect.
In the co-main event, WBA champion Seniesa Estrada takes on Jazmin Gala Villarino in a 10-round bout.
Janibek vs. Bentley – When will it start?
The card starts at 7:15 pm ET / 4:15 PT, but the main event between Janibek and Bentley will be after 11:00 pm ET.
“I don’t want to,” Denzel Bentley told Secondsout when asked if he wanted to enjoy the party and its surroundings in Las Vegas. “I think that takes away from what I need to do. Lose sight of the task at hand.
“After the fight, I’m going to come out on top, win the world title and get really wet and think about what I’ve done. Other than that, I’m in the ring, boxing someone else.
“I can’t really look at the situation and say, ‘Hey, look what I did.’ I’m not done yet. It’s not over; it’s not over. I can’t pretend to be successful when there’s still work to do.
“I do not like. I don’t try, and I don’t want to. It means a lot. It means I finished what I started. It’s time to put out a new project,” said Bentley when asked why he will win the world title with Janibek tonight.
“Any fighter you ask dreams of becoming a world champion,” Bentley said. “This is where I want to be from the start on the world stage to win the World Cup and the headlines in Great Britain, everyone around me and these amazing nights.
“The fans will remember forever, and winning the world championship will help me do that. Winning the world title will help me achieve my goals, and it makes me feel like I started the game for a reason because I started late.
“It will allow me to realize that my work is real. It’s not in vain, and it’s not like I’m playing. So this opportunity came to me to achieve when I didn’t even fight with men who did no success yet.
“I want to be world champion, and we are here now. It means a lot. I’m not trying to make this moment mine. I’m just fighting. I want to win first, and that’s when I enjoy it,” said Bentley.
