Canelo’s failure to match in his loss to Bivol means that he will need a handicap to give him a chance to win. Canelo’s pride may get in the way of his confidence to fight Bivol at 168.
Alvarez won’t want to hurt himself in the eyes of the boxing public, and he certainly will if he agrees to Eddie Hearn’s idea of defending him against Bivol at 168.
Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) will need to lose seven more pounds to drop down from the normal fight weight of 175 lbs to fight Canelo (58-2-2, 39 KOs) for the undisputed title at 168.
Since Bivol has never done this before, it’s hard to say he can get away with it without weakening from the weight loss. One thing is for sure, though, unless Canelo has a handicap, he has no chance of beating Bivol.
Canelo doesn’t throw enough punches to defeat fighters like Bivol, and he won’t win by taking one-on-one shots like he did last May in a 12-round unanimous decision against him.
As for Bivol’s choices for his next fight, he is limited to these three:

- Artur Beterbiev
- Joshua Buatsi
