Georgia Georgia Sa’Rai “Warrior Princess” Brown-El is on an impressive run as she prepares to compete in the upcoming Junior World Championships, November 14-26, in La Nucia, Spain.
The 17-year-old from Marietta is a three-time Junior Olympic National Champion (2017-19) who also won gold medals at the 2021 USA Junior National Championships, 2020 USA Junior National Championships, 2019 Junior Open and 2019 National PAL, among the many titles she owns.
She started boxing at the age of 8 in Albany, New York, where her family was visiting, eventually taking them to her uncle’s gym. At first her father wanted her brothers to box, but Sa’Rai also wanted to participate in martial arts. It was a change of scenery for her, who is a hereditary boxer because her father, mother and older brothers all boxed.
“My mother and I went to look for a pair of gloves after we were told there were no more. I hit the bag first and hit my head. That’s where I fell in love with the game and found out that I was born to do this.”
She excelled in every aspect of her incredible book, which she will try to extend at the Junior World Championships in the next two weeks.
“I am very motivated and ready to go to Spain for the Junior Worlds,” said a confident Sa’Rai. “My thoughts are on gold. My presentation and hard work will put me on top till the last day with the gold medal around my neck on the number one pole. It is truly a blessing to represent the United States.
“My biggest challenge is probably myself; Boxing is 90% mental, meaning I have to have the mindset that nothing will be too difficult to stop me from achieving my goals. My short-term goal, at the moment, is to win the Junior Worlds and finish the year making the Senior Junior Team. The long shot, I would say, is to compete in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Being a world champion, she is seen as an inspiration to everyone and, most importantly, as she has proven that she is the most feared female boxer.”
Brown-El believes that the American boxing game has helped to compete against other styles in the competition, in addition to benefiting from training with great partners, and under the guidance of professional trainers from around the world, in modern American country. “I can show my talent and learn some skills and exercises there (training center) to become a world-class boxer,” she said. “I have been able to fight every style in the world and I can dominate every time. American boxing has taught me very important lessons: to be professional, polite and dedicated, because there are obstacles there’s a lot that goes into it. To me, being professional is the only way to have a career in this game.”
The success in the 2021 National to be part of the 2022 Youth High Performance Team, so far, are the most important things in the junior boxing game. In order to get this gold medal, Sa’Rai explained that she needs to fight with the injuries that almost forced her to withdraw from the competition.
Brown-El has a high ring IQ. Basically, the sweet science is about hitting your opponent without getting hit, especially in Olympic boxing. Her ring IQ is beyond her years, she uses angles, moves constantly, confuses her opponent and dodges them. And, Brown-El is quick to add, that doesn’t mean she won’t play if needed.
“I want to represent my country,” she said. “I want to show the world that we are the greatest. Team USA will be great in the youth league. My message to the fans of American boxing is to keep watching. The future of boxing is coming hot!”
