By Barry Holbrook: Matchroom Boxing announced a few days ago that Chris Eubank Jr’s fight against Conor Benn has been postponed. There is no word on when the tournament will be rescheduled, so fans will need to wait and see if that happens.
Matchroom says the decision by the British Boxing Authority to not sanction the Eubank Jr-Benn fight. was defective and irregular.
It is not known whether the BBBoF had access to Benn’s B-Sample for his positive test for the illegal drug clomiphene before they chose not to sanction it.
Ideally, you want to see the B model appear before the BBBofC decides not to sanction the war. Hearn said on Wednesday that the B model would not be revealed until Saturday.
Now, it will be interesting to learn if Benn (21-0, 14 KOs) will be suspended or stop boxing following his positive test. We’ve seen a big return to Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller after his positive tests. Will there be a similar backlash in the case of Conor Benn who promoted Matchroom?
On Wednesday, it was revealed that the UK Boxing Authority will not sanction Eubank Jr-Benn due to Benn’s positive test.

Eddie Hearn talked about continuing the fight, possibly using another agency, making it an exhibition match, or getting the order. But according to the Daily Mail, Eubank Jr.’s fight with Benn was “professional.”
Naturally, fans were outraged about the cancellation of the fight, especially those who had already paid to watch it on pay-per-view. Those fans will need their money back.
Given all the anger directed at Conor Benn over his positive test, it would be wise for Hearn & Matchroom to forget forever about rescheduling the fight with Eubank Jr.
It would be better for Benn to move on and move to the welterweight division instead of revisiting the idea of fighting Eubank Jr. Hearn talked about wanting Benn to challenge for the world ranking at 147.
This would be a good idea because if Benn can take the world title at heavyweight or, at the very least, beat a professional competitor like Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, most of the heat on him will now be forgotten.
There is no doubt that Benn will need to be thoroughly tested for any fights he has from this point on as fans and opponents alike will want to know that he is clean.
