This past Saturday, WBA #14 Bantamweight contender, Eros Correa (13-1, 8 KOs), of San Jose, CA, defeated Luis Saavedra (9-8, 3 KOs), of San Luis PotosÃ, MX, via in general. make a decision.
The 10 round fight was the main event on Thompson Boxing’s “New Blood” card which took place at Omega Products International in Sacramento, CA.
In the first round, Saavedra had his best moment as he landed several right hands. Correa started to make improvements in the middle rounds when he started using lateral movement.
Correa landed some power shots of his own and closed the show with his boxing skills. The scorecard read 99-91, 96-94, and 97-93 all in favor of Eros Correa.
“Saavedra was a tough opponent and I’m glad I got a round against him,” said Correa, who is looking to climb the WBA ranks with a win.
“I started slow but I was very organized and I closed the fight with some dominant rounds. Fighting in front of my fans in Northern California was special, and I want to thank Thompson Boxing for giving me a big hole event. I hope to have a big fight in 2023, so I’ll be right back in the gym waiting for the call.”
In the 8-round super welterweight co-main event, Damoni Cato-Kain (7-0-1, 6 KOs) of Oakland, CA, and Rashid Stevens (6-1-1, 5 KOs), of Columbus, OH , fight to the red majority. Cato-Kain scored two goals, one in the third round and one in the fourth round. Score cards 75-75, 76-76 and 78-72 (Cato-Kain) were read.
In fight number four, cruiserweight Suray Muhmutovic (6-0-1, 6 KOs), of San Francisco, CA, kept his unbeaten record when he knocked out Cody Kerr (2-2, 1 KO) of Spearfish, ND.
The fight was stopped at 2:37 of round three after Muhmutovic landed a straight left hand from a southpaw that knocked out three of Kerr’s teeth. Muhmutovic dominated the fight before it was stopped.
In the third round, heavyweight prospect Cain Sandoval (7-0, 7 KOs), of Sacramento, CA, remained undefeated by knocking out Edgar Ramirez (18-23-1, 14 KOs) of Sonora, MX. After Sandoval punished Ramirez for one round, the fight was stopped. California rules ruled a penalty kick and Ramirez was unable to continue due to a midsection problem.
In bout number two, Julian Bridges (1-0, 1 KO) from Antioch, CA, scored a first-round knockout over Allen Medina (0-1) of Fresno, CA.
Both fighters started their bout in round 4. Bridges landed a powerful right hand that sent Madina to the draw in the first minute of the bout. Middle gets up and gets dropped again when Bridges lands a couple of right hooks to the head. The match was stopped at 1:00 of round one.
In the opening bout of the evening, middleweight Rowdy Montgomery (8-4-1, 6 KOs) of Victorville CA, scored a third round TKO over Rick Graham (9-28-4, 4 KOs), of Houston, TX . Montgomery applied pressure from the opening bell and stopped Graham at 1:13 of the third round.
