By Barry Holbrook: Eddie Hearn said “100%” He wants to put together a fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder in 2023.
Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) is not the one Hearn remembers Joshua fighting in January, though, as he is looking at Dillian Whyte or possibly Otto Wallin for the next opponent.
The Wilder fight will take place later in the year at some point. Obviously it will depend on how Joshua’s fight goes in January, be it Whyte or Wallin.
Hearn went on to state that he sees the Joshua-Wilder fight as a bigger “world” fight than the Joshua-Fury fight, which makes a lot of sense. Tyson Fury is a big star in the UK but not in the US. Also, Hearn said that boxing fans will be happy to see two big and powerful fighters in the hands of Joshua & Wilder.
“It’s great that he came out and said, ‘This is the fight we want.’ Shelly [Finkel] he also said,” Eddie Hearn told the DAZN Boxing Show about Deontay Wilder being interested in his next Anthony Joshua fight.
“There is no discussion. It rarely happens in January or February when AJ is fightingbut as I’ve seen before, it could be the biggest fight in boxing,” said Hearn
Joshua and Wilder will definitely be a great fight, especially with AJ getting the win over Whyte. Wilder will undoubtedly need to do his part by beating Andy Ruiz in the first quarter of 2023 to give Joshua a fight.
“I know the Fury fight is great, but this fight [Joshua vs. Wilder] It’s a battle between two big players, two fast players, and It is a fight that will make matters worse in the world as one of the biggest fights in the sports field.,” said Hearn about the Joshua-Wilder clash.
“We 100% want this fight in 2023,” Hearn continued. “I haven’t heard back, but at least publicly, they’re saying they want this fight. I agree with them, too.
“I think I’ll collect those conversations as we close out the year. I know it’s been talked about a lot [Wilder] fight with Andy Ruiz. I think it’s a great fight. “Whether it happened or not, I don’t know,” said Hearn.
