By Charles Brown: Deontay Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel says he wants Eddie Hearn to bring “a lot of money” to fight Deontay Wilder as he said.
Finkel said, “we are here,” ready to make Joshua and Wilder fight. Indeed, Hearn may change his mind about pitting Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) against the former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) after witnessing his impressive 1st round knockout of Robert Helenius last Saturday night in New York.
This KO by Wilder could scare Hearn and Oleksandr Usyk away from fighting him. They probably expected to see the same Wilder that Tyson Fury has fought in consecutive years in 2020 and 2021.
Wilder is a different fighter now than the one who lost to Fury twice. Tested down from 238 lbs to 214 lbs and faster with his cobra-like right hand.
It is safe to say that after Wilder’s way to avoid obliterated Helenius (31-4, 20 KOs), Hearn will make sure that it does not happen to the main moneymaker for Matchroom, Joshua. AJ is the same as the old one Spindletop oilfield in Beaumont, Texas.
Joshua is raising money and loyalty for Matchroom, and Hearn isn’t going to ruin that by letting Deontay turn him into dust like he did with Helenius.
“Two months ago, Eddie Hearn sent us a letter, and we said the most important thing is to train Deontay and do what he did tonight,” said Shelly Finkel, Wilder’s general manager for Fight Hub TV.
“Now that he has finished, wI will see if Eddie will come with the truck loads of money he said and what Joshua said. We are here. He knows how to take us, so we will see. We’ll see if he changes his mind tonight.
Joshua-Wilder is bigger than Fury-Usyk
“Everything is possible in boxing. I believe it can be done. I agree that he is bigger than Fury-Usyk,” said Matchroom Boxing President Frank Smith to iFL TV about the fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder which is bigger than Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
“It’s not about Fury-Usyk. It’s just that Wilder and Joshua have been built up for a long time and talked about for a long time. It’s a fight that people want, and I really believe it’s going to happen.
“He’s a big star in the heavyweight division and a big star in sports. Hopefully we can make this fight. We tried to do it [Joshua vs. Wilder]. DAZN spoke volumes for Deontay’s team. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, but we worked really hard to make it happen.
“It’s not too late. I still think we can get him on the line, and he’s still a great fight right now, regardless of the belt. The dream is always to be uncontroversial. This continues to be a dream, but great battles are also taking place. That was the biggest fight there,” said Smith.
