By Dan Ambrose: David Benavidez says he will pick Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez to defeat WBA champion Dmitry Bivol on November 5 because it is his. “friend.”

Benavidez said Zurdo Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) will need to cut the ring on the speedy Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) and get close enough to attack his body.

In the previous round, Benavidez finished with Bivol and managed to throw to the body. Of course, Bivol has improved a lot since then, and shut down Canelo Alvarez’s body-throwing efforts last May.

Canelo definitely punches better than Ramirez, and of course, he has faster hand speed. Ramirez has no speed at all, even if you compare him to heavyweights.

Bivol and Ramirez will headline on DAZN on November 5 at the Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi. If Bivol wins, he will be in line for a rematch with Canelo next May.

Ramirez, unfortunately, doesn’t have that option if he wins because Canelo says he doesn’t want to fight Mexican fighters. The only option available to Ramirez is a fight against IBF, WBC & WBO 175-lb champion Artur Beterbiev.

As easy as Ramirez is to hit, he will be in serious danger of being knocked out by Beterbiev. Even if Ramirez doesn’t get to stop Beterbiev, he’ll beat him and maybe hope he’s knocked out by the end of the fight.

I will go to Zurdo Ramirez again because he is my friendand I want him to win, and I know him very well, but it will be a tough fight,” said David Benavidez to Fighthype, who picked Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez to defeat Dmitry Bivol on November 5.

“With the left [southpaw Zurdo Ramirez] It’s a right hand, and Bivol has a big right hand. But Bivol, when I defended him, was prone to body shots, and Ramirez threw good body shots.

“I think this fight will come down to who has the most heart and wants it. Zurdo Ramirez will cover the ring and cut corners for Bivol because Bivol has good legs, as you can see from the Canelo fight.

“After this fight in the future, hopefully, I can go up to 175 and challenge these guys again. I know them personally and I have no problem with them, but this is boxing, and I want to be the best. Hopefully, I can fight them in the future.

“Honestly, you’re starting all over again,” Benavidez said of the move to 175. “The guys at 175, they’re not in my blanket. They’re not with PBC. So basically I’m going to DAZN and Top Rank .Your politics and stuff are tough,” Benavidez said.
