By Barry Holbrook: Heavyweight David Adeleye remembers how intimidating Tyson Fury was when he sparred with him for the first time.
Heavyweight Adeleye (9-0, 8 KOs) said he went out trying to take the fight to Fury right away and found out how difficult it was to land his shot against the 6’9″ fighter.
Finally, Adeleye finds the right way to fight Fury, which is not as bad as it seems at first.
Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) defends his WBC heavyweight title against Derek Chisora (33-12, 23 KOs) on December 3 at Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium in London.
Adeleye will see action against Michael Wallisch (23-5, 16 KOs) on November 11th at York Hall, Bethnal Green.
“I will never forget. It was in Vegas, and I was a 1-0 pro. I entered the gym, he was folding his arms. I am with two other fighters. So we entered. He was standing, the gym was boiling, literally,” David Adeleye told iFL TV, recalling the first time he stopped Tyson Fury.
“We hit the bags, and the next day, we survived. The man was sharp. What you see on TV and what you see in person are two different things. So, I went in there in a different style, trying to put it directly to him.
“The boy slippedbut at the end of the season, I understood how to box, how to use my character, see other things and work on my advantages.
“I actually went [in the first spar with Fury]. Obviously, Tyson has the upper hand, so he weathered the storm. He was trying to slip away. It was a good experience, though. I have never broken up with someone as mean as him. It’s a scary thing.
“I’m laughing.” I was looking at the kids, ‘This guy is really scary.’ I know it will be scary. There are levels. So when I went in with him, ‘It won’t matter.’
“I went in there charging, swinging, trying to get him off the jump. It’s good.
“There has been a lot of criticism. What did they sell, 50,000 tickets? Adeleye said this when asked about his thoughts on Fury’s criticism of journeyman Derek Chisora in their fight on December 3.
“People are still looking into the matter. Derek comes to fight every time, which is great. Fury has a personality, which is good. It’s good for Derek because it gives Derek a chance to fight for the world title.
“It’s good for the British public to see a fight in December because everyone wants to see Fury back, and he’s here now. He wants to fight,” said Adeleye.
