By Allan Fox: Terence Crawford feels there’s no reason why a fight with Errol Spence Jr can’t still happen after defeating David Avanesyan on December 10.
With Crawford’s impressive eight-figure payday from BLK Prime, he is defending his WBO welterweight title against Avanesyan (29-3-1, 17 KOs) on pay-per-view at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska; he may be damaged from this, he thinks he will get the same amount or more to face Spence.
What we can see is that Crawford expects to be given the deal that BLK Prime gave him when trying to negotiate with Spence. When that doesn’t happen, there won’t be a fight.
Crawford will then be hoping that BLK Prime will give him another big payday, but that won’t be possible if they take a bath of money, losing a lot of money to Terence of the Avaneysan campaign.
“There’s always life in the fight, but things have to be right, and they have to be right,” Terence Crawford told The Good Fight, when asked if there was still a possibility of fighting Errol Spence.
“I think if this is the fight they want to have and they want to make the fans happy and they want to fix things, of course, it can happen.
“You can’t be #1 in any area without having that offline title,” Crawford said.
“There is a champion line and then one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and then the bottom. If you look at it, and this mug says vacant, you can’t call yourself #1 in the division because it’s vacant.
“This belt dominates all other belts. Why do you think it’s a gift? You are the champion of the people. We will give you a free belt. You got this. All other belts, you have to pay.
“It’s about money. We are free players. Let’s fight for this prize. I feel like I’m still at the top of my game, and I love that Errol Spence fought just to prove a point. I really don’t need boxing.
“I’m making a lot of money at the same time, doing something you want to do. People say, ‘He only fights once a year.’ Well, I’m not sick. If I was sick, I would have taken this; I have to take that. I am happy, and I am blessed.
“I just want to own my business, have a seat at the table and know what’s going on in my business. I can do things that I couldn’t do at Top Rank. “I can see things that I couldn’t see at Top Rank,” Crawford said.
