Canelo Alvarez Not Slipping According to David Benavidez | Biden News

By Dan Ambrose: David Benavidez doesn’t believe Canelo Alvarez is showing signs of slipping in his last two fights against Gennadiy Golovkin and Dmitry Bivol.

Benavidez insists that Canelo’s streak of killing WBA champion Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) and Golovkin has to do with him fighting big men and power.

Prior to these two recent fights, Canelo was mostly fighting underweights in Caleb Plant, Billy Joe Saunders, Avni Yildirim, and Rocky Fielding, and was able to walk into their shots.

Benavidez noted that the only person with the power that Canelo has faced until Bivol & Golovkin is Callum Smith in 2020.

Callum didn’t have a big plan for the Canelo contest, and he fought poorly by sitting on the ropes.

Some boxing fans will argue that Canelo’s last fight against the 40-year-old Golovkin clearly showed his deterioration as a fighter.

Whether you want to blame that on too much golf for Canelo or maybe the ring wear that accumulated from his fight at 168 in 2021 is up to you.

Looking at Canelo’s two previous attempts against GGG and Bivol, this is a different fighter than the one who won the undisputed middleweight championship last year.

“He’s just fighting bigger fighters with more punching power,” David Benavidez told Fighthype when asked if Canelo Alvarez is slipping as a fighter after his underwhelming bouts against Gennadiy Golovkin and Dmitry Bivol.

“When he made that run at 168, it was a good run,” Benavidez continued about Canelo. “Who was the first person to hit? Rocky Fielding, Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant. Besides Callum Smith, all those dudes have no punching ability.

“Then, when you put him with a guy who has striking ability, it’s different. That’s what I bring to the table for this fight. I have striking ability, run, a big jab, and I have a big shot. body.

“So, he’s not just going to walk my shot like he did with Caleb Plant or the way he did with Billy Joe Saunders. That’s what creates a threat. Once you get a fighter that’s bigger than you and he has punch strength or more than you, he responds to you in proportion to your punch, that’s why it will be difficult.

“Caleb Plant and Billy Joe Saunders, they’re getting some good shots [on Canelo], but they just don’t have the power. That’s why Canelo keeps going through them, and I guarantee you, he won’t go through my shots.

“This is what we box for. This is what we train for,” said Benavidez when told that Canelo was throwing some heat. “I’m not afraid of anybody.

“If you go in there, ‘Oh f***, let’s see if the shot hurts,’ then you’ve already beaten yourself. This goes back to what I said. If I go in there and believe I can pull off a heavy or heavy load, I have to be ready for anything.

“This is boxing. You will be hit either way. I feel like I can go through hell and have everything to win,” Benavidez said.
