Canelo Alvarez Needs To Fight Bivol At 175, Not 168, Says David Benavidez | Biden News

By Sean Jones: David Benavidez says Canelo Alvarez needs to face Dmitry Bivol at 175, not 168, next year because he lost to him at lightweight.

Benavidez believes that Canelo is “cash cow”but he did not understand why he would make the WBA 175-lb champion Bivol (21-0, 14 KOs) down to 168 for the rematch instead of fighting him in the division that he lost the fight.

Also, Benavidez said that Canelo (58-2-2, 39 KOs) will not be better than the fight at 168 with Bivol because the Russian military aircraft will be faster and more aggressive than he was at 175.

In other words, Bivol will not be ruled out from dropping down in weight to 168 if this is Canelo’s main plan to try and win the fight.

“I don’t think anything will change,” David Benavidez told Fighthype when asked about a rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol.

“He was energized. I don’t think he has any motivation in the fight. I think Bivol is the best fighter and the best. He was the best fighter.

“Canelo is going to fight Bivol like he did Golovkin. The way he fought Golovkin is the same way he fought Bivol. He’s got to throw more. When he fights Bivol, he’s trying to cut that hand and land a big shot. .

“He [Canelo] he’s on his high horse from beating Caleb Plant and Callum Smith and he’s saying this. He thought he could say that to everyone, but he couldn’t. He has to change his style with Bivol, and how he does that, I don’t know.

“That’s his problem. He had to understand that. I think that’s because he’s one of those people who won’t cut weight. He walks at 185, so he doesn’t need to cut a lot of weight. If anything, I think he’ll be faster,” Benavidez said of Bivol.

“It won’t be as powerful, but it will be faster and more powerful. So I think that will be worse for Canelo. I think if he will fight with him again, he will reach 175. Why would the guy do it? [Bivol] the winner comes down to his weight?

“I understand that Canelo is a cash cow, but he beat him. Canelo told Bivol that he would come down to 175, and he beat him at 175. So why would he play at the light weight level again? Benavidez said.
