When the clock ran out to ‘Turf War,’ Sonny Bill Williams threw his war plan out the window.
“It’s funny, Barry Hall, it’s only been a few days and I’m like ‘f– it, I’m going’,” Williams told Wide World of Sports ahead of her clash with Mark Hunt on Saturday.
His call to throw caution to the wind proved right, as the number one star stormed the AFL Hall of Fame with a first round stoppage in March.

But there were two major differences in Williams’ thinking before taking on Hunt.
The first is Hunt’s experience in the fight game – though mostly in the world of MMA – and his devastating power.
“Maybe this guy is a little more tactical, a little more experienced,” Williams said when asked if he planned to attack Hunt early.

“It’s a daunting challenge because of what Mark Hunt has to offer.
“We just have to feel it and see what happens. Just like in footy, the best game plan is the one you can adjust to. You have to adjust on the run, you have other things to work on. . but you have to be able to roll with the punches.”
The second big change is that Williams will not have Irish head coach Andy Lee in his corner on Saturday.
Lee, who is a former world champion, has focused on fatherhood and one of his Kiwi charges, Joseph Parker, in recent months.
“It’s nice that Andy can’t be here this time,” Williams said.
“I still talk to him regularly, send pictures and get advice and what-not.
“Hopefully in the near future I’ll be doing some more work with him. But I’m working with Tony Mundine and Brother Muhummad (Alyatim) from Brotherhood Boxn at Punchbowl, we’ve done some work together.
“Every trainer I step in the ring with, I learn from him. I’m a novice in this sport so it’s been a good camp.”
Williams, 9-0 as a professional, has youth and maturity on his side and will enter the ring as the favorite.

But he has no doubt that the ‘Super Samoan’ is his most dangerous opponent yet
“Obviously because he’s a worker, he’s been in the ring for years. And one of the hardest things for me was fighting a fellow Samoan, and that was an interesting part of for me – whether it’s on the field or indoors. ring. But the positive is what I look for. The constant challenge and the desire to show and improve my game.”
