Dmitry Bivol said last Saturday night that if he can’t get a title fight with the lightweight belt champion Artur Beterbiev in the next four or five months, he will have another fight.
This means that Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) can face Canelo Alvarez in a rematch, as he is the most aggressive fight out there for the WBA light weight champion, and the Mexican star is eager to face him again.
If Bivol is too focused on collecting belts to defend himself, moving up to 168 to fight Canelo for his undisclosed championship would give him a chance to win four belts at once.
Promoter Eddie Hearn brought up the idea of Bivol moving down to 168 to challenge Canelo for the vacant middleweight championship if he had to fight for a new belt in his next fight.
With Beterbiev busy defending Anthony Yarde in February and unable to fight due to Ramadan, it means Bivol won’t have the chance to fight for a new title at 175 until the summer at the earliest.
Last Saturday night, Bivol defeated Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez (44-1, 30 KOs) with a 12 round unanimous decision in Abu Dhabi. Like the Bivol vs. Canelo fight, the Ramirez fight was supposed to be competitive, but it quickly turned into a mismatch.
Bivol completely dominated Ramirez, and was awarded the three rounds won by the Mexican star.
“I proved myself. I can beat the best man in the world [in Canelo Alvarez],” said Dmitry Bivol after his victory over Gilberto Ramirez last Saturday night.
“It doesn’t just depend on who I fight next. I want to fight for another belt. If I don’t get this opportunity in four or five months, I will fight again.” said Bivol.

“If Canelos is healthy, you take this fight. This is a great fight. You can’t turn down the money for this. You can do the fight at 175 and it will still be marketable and it will still be a great fight.
“I think it adds to the excitement to see Bivol drop down to 168 and fight for all four of Canelo’s belts because it’s a legacy.
