By Chris Williams: Andre Ward says Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis won’t get a shot at Errol Spence Jr or Terence Crawford right now. Ward said Boots Ennis (29-0, 27 KOs) is “too dangerous” for those guys.
Once Spence & Crawford “carry on,“Boots will get his shot,” Ward said. Unless these two intend to retire soon, they won’t be able to sway Ennis without him clearly seeing that they are ducking him.
The idea of a painful future is one that Ward shares with Ennis. Old school fighters from years past will not ignore Enis.
They should have fought him because that’s what the sport is all about, but it will be said if Ward is right about Boots not getting shot until after Spence & Crawford move on.
Boots has already said he will move to junior middleweight after collecting titles at 147, and once he gets to 154, there will be no escape for Spence & Crawford.
If Ward turns out to be correct about his prediction of the 25-year-old Boots being frozen by Spence & Crawford, that’s unfortunate because many boxing fans want to see him face off.
There isn’t much more talent at 154 than Jermell Charlo and Tim Tszyu right now. When Crawford and Spence move up in weight, they will quickly discover that there is no one to fight in this division.
Boots won’t get shot
“Spence doesn’t need to fight anybody,” said Andre Ward for Fighthype about who Errol Spence Jr should fight next.
“If he’s boxing, which I don’t think he is, he should be fighting someone like Terence is fighting someone. Stay busy, keep your cool, and then go back to the discussion and see if you can make it happen.” .
“They wouldn’t give Boots a shot. It is very dangerous, and here’s the thing. You can’t blame them. This is the incoming crop.
“Hey, bro, let’s make do with what we’ve got, and that’s really a sign of respect for Boots. They’re not afraid of Boots. They’ve been fighting their whole lives. It’s a business, and you should think so.
“Can [Boots] He is young, hungry for everything he can get, and is still building his fan base. They know he can fight. Despite NOT there will be shooting now. He’ll get a shot once Errol and Terence decide to move on.
Ennis had to prove himself
“Boots has to answer all the hard questions like we all have to. What if you get punched the first time? What if the fight doesn’t go your way? What if you get hurt or get buzzed?
“What will happen when the competition starts? It is a question for everyone to answer. With the eye test, it is definitely more than that. He has a great pedigree with his father and his team. He’s from Philly, they’re real Philly people.
“Sure, you see his pedigree, but you have to see him answer these tough questions like we did to see if he’s outstanding.
“Devin Haney had to give up a lot to make this fight [George Kambosos Jr] twice, and if he had been wronged, what would anyone say? ‘He is mad; he shouldn’t do it. He is not an artist. So he went over there.’
“I know we give the fans a lot of credit, and we should, real fans, but you have to do what’s best for you and you hope your fans understand and hope they come with you .But you can’t just do it for the fans.
“You have to do it for your family, and make the right business decisions. Haney has done what’s best for him. He’s put all that email champion noise to bed, and he’s in the driver’s seat now. It’s amazing.” how little time changes things,” said Ward.
