World Boxing News reported this week that Deontay Wilder vs Andy Ruiz Jr. is on the cards for Las Vegas in the first half of 2023.
Both men are aware of the WBC’s mandatory elimination ban for the clash, ultimately deciding who will face the heavyweight champion, winner Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk.
WBN stated that Wilder vs Ruiz Jr. could happen over the weekend of Cinco de Mayo, but only if Canelo Alvarez abandons his usual position.
Canelo is nursing an injury that has left him wondering if he will be ready for his spring return. The famous Mexican player also believes that his body needs rest after suffering from a lack of katabus.
This situation means Wilder vs Ruiz could take the coveted date of May 6 if Canelo goes past his normal schedule.
Eddie Hearn responded recently when asked by DAZN if Canelo will fight in May: “I agree with that. According to his neck, but I think so. “
Ruiz’s father, Andy Sr., recently confirmed that his son is considering his next fight in May. So, waiting until the end of this month makes sense if Canelo is on the sidelines.
“There is one fight left [with Al Haymon]. They did not tell me who we will fight with,” Sr. he told IZQUIERDAZO.
“It could also be with the other Cubans, with Frank Sanchez. But we will see who they want to put him with [next time].
“It’s a given that Andy will be back to work around the spring. If it’s not Wilder, they’re ready to fight anybody,” Ruiz Sr. said.

However, Ruiz fought in September, defeating Luis Ortiz. Wilder scored in 177 seconds on October 15 against Helenius, so they can consider other dates.
Wilder recently knocked out Robert Helenius in the first round of their fight at the Barclays Center. It could be new in January or February after a short break.
Right now, the Premier Boxing Championship has started to determine the dates. They held several slots at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the popular strip.
These are January 7, January 28, February 4, and March 18. The last two will be the most encouraging for Wilder vs Ruiz, with March being the ideal scenario if Canelo wants to make an early return.
WBN reported that New York and Los Angeles, the favorite places of Wilder and Ruiz of late, PBC is not considering them to give the middle of the fight.
Fury or Usyk
The winner of the fight will get the next shot at the WBC Championship, where Fury and Usyk will fight at the same time in Saudi Arabia.
Joe Joyce, the number one belt holder of the WBO, could get his first chance. This result would leave Deontay Wilder or Andy Ruiz to fight until early 2024.
Either way, he could consider facing Anthony Joshua if the Brit returns to winning ways in the coming months.
Joshua defeated Ruiz by unanimous decision in their December 2019 fight. Ruiz knocked out AJ last June, scoring devastating points.
Either opponent will be decided after they clash in the final of the WBC junior heavyweight championship signed by Mauricio Sulaiman at the request of Al Haymon.
“The Gypsy King” or Usyk will be waiting for two of the best heavyweights in the world outside the title picture.
