Xscape is set to receive the Lady of Soul honor at the 2022 Soul Train Awards The Georgia quartet is the second group to receive the honor, following SWV in 2017. These two teams square off in one of the most watched Verzuz specials to date.
Hosted by actor, comedian and author Deion Cole, the 2022 Soul Train Awards premieres Sunday, November 27 at 8pm ET/PT on BET and BET Her.
The foursome — “Kandi” Burruss-Tucker, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, and sisters Tamika Scott and LaTocha Scott — collected six top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in the 1990s, topped by “Just Kickin’ It,” which peaked at 2 in 1993. Their other top 10 jams were “Understanding,” “Who Can I Run To?”, “The Arms Of The One Who Loves You,” “My Little Secret” and MC Litt’s “Keep On, Keeping On ‘ ,” they were featured.
The group had three consecutive platinum albums – Humin’ comin’ on ‘Tea, off the hook, and trace of my lipstick’. They appeared on the soundtrack The Mask, Big Mama’s House, Hardball, Love Jones and Soul Food. Their music is 21 Savage, Summer Walker, Anderson. Sampled by the likes of Paak, The Game and Trey Songz.
After embarking on a solo career, Xscape returned in 2017 with The Great Xscape Tour. They also starred in the BRAVO series Xscape Still Kicking It and Mary J. Appeared at Blige’s inaugural Strength of a Woman Festival.

BET Soul will dedicate an entire hour to Xscape music videos on October 28 at 5 pm ET.
Other recipients of the Lady of the Soul award since its inception in 2015, besides SWV and Xscape, are solo personalities – Jill Scott, Brandy, Faith Evans, Yolanda Adams, Monica and last year’s recipient, Ashanti.
Beyoncé and Mary J. Blige lead the 2022 Soul Train Awards nominations with seven nods each. Ari Lennox followed with six nods. Lizzo and Chris Brown are tied with five nods each, followed by Barna Boy, Mooney Long and Steve Lacy with four nods each. Bruno Mars, Anderson .Pak, Silk Sonic, PJ Morton and Thames each received three nominations.
Orlando will oversee annual shows and executive produce for BET, along with Jamal Noisette, the network’s VP, specials and music programming. Jesse Collins, CEO of Jesse Collins Entertainment, will also serve as executive producer along with two of that company’s top executives, Jeannae Rouzan-Clay and Dionne Harmon.
