Tripura to launch Lata Mangeshkar music award

Agartala (Tripura) [India]February 6 (ANI): Tripura may introduce music awards for local artistes named after legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Tripura Chief Minister Biplap Kumar Dev said on Sunday, “A decision to launch an award or recognition in Lata Mangeshkar’s name is under consideration.”
“I cannot take a decision myself. There is an information and culture department to look after these matters. Besides, I have to consult my cabinet colleagues. Since his name involves public emotions, we must. Consider the matter,” Dev said. .
Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who ruled the hearts of music lovers for decades with her soulful voice, breathed her last at a hospital in Maharashtra on Sunday morning.
After placing a wreath at Lata Mangeshkar’s portrait at her official residence, the Chief Minister said, “Lata Mangeshkar was an institution in music. She was among the leading figures in the music industry as well as in the cultural field of the country.”
Dev said he was deeply saddened by Mangeshkar’s death and thanked him for redefining Indian music.

“I am deeply saddened to hear the news of his death and express my gratitude to him for redefining Indian music,” he said.
The Chief Minister recalled his childhood listening to Lata Mangeshkar’s music and urged artistes in the state to follow in his footsteps.
“I grew up listening to the classic duets of Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar secured by RD Burman or SD Burman and urged artistes in the state to follow in the footsteps of late Lata Mangeshkar,” he said.
Lata Mangeshkar died at the age of 92. The megastar was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on January 8 after he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia.
Meanwhile, two days of national mourning will be observed in memory of Lata Mangeshkar. The national flag will also fly at half-mast for two days, as a mark of respect, and he was given a state funeral.
Mangeshkar was an Indian playback singer and occasional composer known as the “Nightingale of India” for his melodious voice.
Born on September 28, 1929, he began his career in 1942 at the age of 13. In a career spanning over seven decades, Melody Queen recorded songs for more than a thousand Hindi films. He has sung in more than 36 regional Indian languages ​​and foreign languages. (ANI)
