The new Iowa Music Awards are coming to Cedar Rapids | Biden News

CEDAR RAPIDS — The inaugural Iowa Music Awards are designed to highlight and celebrate high-caliber artists from across the state. The event begins on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at 5pm and tickets start at $50.

The Iowa Music Awards aims to fill a void in the way Iowa shares its talent with the world, according to a news release. The event will follow in the footsteps of the most high-profile awards show in the industry, offering a premier red. Carpet experience for dignitaries and guests.

The honorees are selected by a panel of diverse leaders and influencers in the Iowa music industry and the event is presented by T1 Entertainment in partnership with Olympic South Side Theatre.

“We’re doing this show to appreciate and celebrate all the genres and music that’s made in Iowa,” said T1 Entertainment founder Antonio Chalmers, who also performs as noted rap artist Tone Da Boss.

Award categories represent the Iowa music industry, from artists of all genres to producers, videographers and art-related events.

“It’s about time we all have a platform to recognize the hard work and dedication,” Pork Tornado’s Mike Schulte said in a prepared statement.

T1 Entertainment also produces the Iowa Summer Jam event in Cedar Rapids each year, and Chalmers said the company is interested in taking those experiences and applying them to the Iowa Music Awards. This earlier success caught the attention of the owners of the Olympic South Side Theater.

“This is what Iowa needs. We’d love to have it at the Olympics,” said Steve Shriver, co-owner of the venue, located on the second floor of No. 200, 1202 Third St. SE in the Newbo District.
